The Resource Coordinator is responsible for completing an initial assessment of the youth and family, identifying strengths and needs of each family, linking the family to any community resources that they might need, providing assistance to youth and families who are at risk, monitoring youth’s program compliance regarding service projects, recreation events, and didactic groups. The resource coordinator is also responsible for organizing and facilitating didactic groups for youth enrolled in YAP. The Resource Coordinator will also ensure that all of the necessary data for evaluation is gathered and recorded. Regular Schedule: Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Due to needs of the program and of the consumers evenings and weekends may be required.
Specific Responsibilities include:
- Evaluate and interpret referral information and complete a strength-based assessment.
- Complete intake with youth and parent/guardian in order to gather background information and assess the family’s strengths and needs.
- Make appropriate referrals to mental health, substance abuse, or other program for additional family needs (as needed).
- Evaluate the progress and make adjustments as necessary.
- Oversee recreational and service events that incorporate positive and drug-free messages.
- Facilitate didactic and process groups with the youth.
- Advocate on behalf of youth in YAP.
- Work with local law enforcement officers and school personnel to ensure that necessary services are provided for the youth and families in YAP.
- Collaborate with existing resources within The Guidance Center and the downriver community to enhance the program.
- Other duties as designated by the Supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Guidance and Counseling, or related field
- Experience in the delivery of services to multiple risk families and group experience with adolescents.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills as well as having the ability to be creative, flexible, and provide non-judgmental, culturally competent unconditional care.
- Be able to engage and maintain therapeutic relationships with families, the ability to develop collaborative relationships with other providers, effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to assess and intervene within complex family and community systems, and a willingness to be flexible, patient, and creative. Must have the ability to appropriately handle crisis situations.
- Computer skills including Word, Excel and Publisher preferred.
