Job Description

Principal Infrastructure Engineer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Principal Infrastructure Engineer in United States.

This is a senior technical leadership role focused on designing, evolving, and scaling the infrastructure that powers mission-critical production systems. You will operate across both network and systems engineering domains, ensuring high availability, resilience, and performance across complex, distributed environments. The role combines deep hands-on engineering with architectural ownership, requiring someone who can both solve urgent production issues and define long-term infrastructure strategy. You will drive automation initiatives, modernize operational workflows, and implement infrastructure as code to improve consistency and scalability. Working closely with engineering, development, QA, and operations teams, you will serve as a key technical bridge across the organization. This is a high-impact position where your decisions directly influence platform reliability and system performance at scale.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, build, and evolve scalable infrastructure across networking and systems layers to ensure high availability and performance.
  • Lead architectural decisions for Linux systems, virtualization platforms, and production server environments.
  • Own and resolve complex production incidents as a senior escalation point across infrastructure domains.
  • Oversee and optimize network infrastructure including routing, switching, firewalls, and load balancing.
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code adoption and expand automation across deployment and operational workflows.
  • Reduce manual processes by implementing standardized, automated infrastructure solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, QA, and operations teams to align infrastructure with business needs.
  • Define and enforce infrastructure best practices, standards, and operational guidelines.
  • Lead initiatives to improve system reliability, redundancy, observability, and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Evaluate and implement AI-assisted tooling to improve operational efficiency and infrastructure performance.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to the overall technical maturity of the infrastructure organization.

Requirements:

  • 12+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering with strong expertise in both network and systems engineering.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Linux administration, performance tuning, and production system management.
  • Strong networking knowledge including TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, firewalls, and load balancing technologies.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale production environments in on-premises or hybrid data centers.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting complex issues across hardware, network, and systems layers.
  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar for automation.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes (preferred).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure (plus).
  • Strong background in high availability, disaster recovery, and systems resilience design.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional technical teams.
  • Strong ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in fast-paced environments.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range between 125,000 USD and 195,000 USD depending on experience and location.
  • Equity opportunities and additional performance-based compensation.
  • Comprehensive health coverage including medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Retirement benefits including 401(k) with employer match.
  • Flexible remote-first work environment across the United States.
  • Paid time off, sick leave, and company-observed holidays.
  • Additional financial and wellness benefits including insurance coverage and assistance programs.
  • Stipends for home office, internet, and mobile expenses.
  • Access to modern tools, equipment, and productivity resources.
