The Sutter Club was founded in 1889 and is the second-oldest private club in the state of California. The Club moved to its present location at 1220 9th Street in 1930 and continues to thrive as private social club one block from the State Capitol. Job Summary (Essential Functions)
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Facilities Assistant (Regular Part-Time up to 30 hours per week) will assist with all mechanical areas of the club facility including, electrical, HVAC systems and related equipment to keep the club functioning at top efficiency. Works as an assistant to the Facilities Manager to complete renovation, maintenance, expansion, and special projects.
Job Tasks/Duties
- Assists with work orders for all areas of the club and its equipment.
- Assists the Facilities Manager with coordinating planners and contractors and coordinates remodeling of club areas.
- Assists with the management of an ongoing energy management program for the property’s HVAC and lighting systems.
- Assists in checking fire protection systems for proper operation and training personnel for usage.
- Assists with managing the club’s ongoing preventive maintenance program for HVAC, electric, plumbing, roofing, elevators and all club buildings along with ice machines, laundry equipment, kitchen exhaust hoods, and make-up air units.
- Maintains a log for all equipment repairs.
- In the Facilities Manager’s absence, serves as liaison between club and regulatory agencies including health and safety inspections and city building department.
- Under the Facilities Manager’s direction, assists with scheduling and responding to maintenance requests from club managers or employees.
- Maintains inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Ensures that OSHA work requirements are met and that Safety Data Sheets (SDS’s) are available.
- Attends staff and departmental meetings as needed.
- Completes other appropriate tasks assigned by the Facilities Manager.
Education and/or Experience
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Experience using hand tools and power tools is required.
- Experience with remodeling residential and/or commercial buildings is preferred.
- Experience as a handyman is preferred.
Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations
- Ability to diagnose and implement repairs to refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, glass chillers and related items.
- Able to diagnose minor HVAC problems and implement repairs; install thermostats and set programming.
- Can diagnose and implement repairs to commercial ovens electric or gas, fryer units, convection ovens, commercial mixers and other kitchen equipment.
- Can diagnose, trace and resolve electrical problems.
- Replace water heaters and handle related plumbing projects.
- Diagnose problems with commercial washers and dryers and make repairs.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform required role during emergency situations.
Licenses and Special Requirements
- Valid driver’s license required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position
- Frequent pushing, pulling, and lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent bending, climbing, and stooping.
