Job Description
Summer Nurse Internship Program
UNIT SUMMARY: The Behavioral Health and 4C unit provide general, acute care for inpatient adults who may be suffering for mental or behavioral health issues. The 4C unit has a capacity of 14 beds, while the BHU census capacity is 23 beds. Patients in these units may have be depressed, schizophrenic, or struggle with substance abuse or a mood disorder. In addition to the BHU and 4C, staff works in a 6-bed area of the ER, referred to as the Psych West Pod, which can house adults, adolescents or children. Most nursing staff in this area cross train to all three areas. Staff members in these areas must be positive and outgoing and must utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status.
The 10-week Summer Nurse Internship program, consisting of 36 clinical hours weekly (three 12-hour shifts), offers individual and group support in cultivating professional and educational growth and helping students bridge the academic-practice gap in their knowledge, skills and professional practice. This is an opportunity to gain experience working one on one with a nurse during the summer to gain more hands-on and critical thinking experience.
Student Nurse opportunities are available to eligible students after successfully completing the 10- week program.
Program starts on June 8, 2026
