SUMMARY: The Landscape Labourer supports the successful execution of residential and commercial landscape construction projects through hands-on site work, material installation, and equipment operation. Working under the direction of a Foreman or Crew Lead, this role assists with grading, softscape and hardscape installation, and general site preparation while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards and company procedures.The Landscape Labourer contributes to efficient project delivery by maintaining organized job sites, properly caring for tools and equipment, and demonstrating a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and commitment to quality workmanship. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Site Preparation & Installation SupportGrading & Site Preparation
Assist with pre-grade, rough grading, and final grading under supervision.
Prepare sites by removing debris, leveling soil, and setting elevations as directed.
Softscape Installation
Install sod, trees, shrubs, perennials, and mulch according to specifications.
Assist with planting, soil preparation, and proper compaction techniques.
Hardscape Installation Support
Assist with the installation of patios, retaining walls, boulders, decorative rock, and water features.
Support base preparation, material handling, cutting, and placement under supervision.
Equipment Use
Safely operate small equipment as trained (e.g., plate tampers, rollers, compactors).
Assist in the safe operation of and spot around larger equipment such as skid steers, trenchers, and mini excavators.
Hand & Power Tools
Use hand tools including shovels, rakes, brooms, and hammers.
Operate power tools such as tampers, drills, chainsaws, and nail guns as trained.
Ensure all tools and equipment are in safe working condition and report defects immediately.
Sign tools and equipment in and out using Asset Tiger as required.
Follow all company policies and procedures, including OH&S requirements.
Wear required PPE at all times and adhere to Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures.
Participate in toolbox meetings and complete required safety documentation (e.g., inspections, incident or near-miss reports).
Maintain situational awareness of job site hazards and contribute to a safe work environment.
Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free job sites throughout the workday.
Ensure tools, trucks, and materials are properly stored and secured at the end of each shift.
Demonstrate high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
Communicate respectfully and professionally with crew members and clients on-site.
Represent the company’s mission, vision, and values through conduct and performance.
Experience in landscaping or construction is an asset.
Familiarity with skid steers, power tools, and standard landscape construction methods is an asset.
Ability to read and interpret basic site drawings is an asset.
Post-secondary training in landscaping, safety, first aid, or equipment operation is an asset.
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract is an asset.
Reliable transportation to job sites in Edmonton and surrounding areas is required.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Basic proficiency with digital tools for time tracking and safety documentation (e.g., Aspire, Site Docs) is an asset.
Strong work ethic with reliability, accountability, and attention to detail.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Effective time management and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Clear and professional communication skills.
Physically capable of performing manual labour in outdoor conditions, including lifting, bending, repetitive movement, and equipment operation.
Comfortable using mobile devices for recordkeeping and safety documentation.
Primarily outdoor work environment.
Regular exposure to dirt, dust, debris, and construction-related noise.
Exposure to varying weather conditions, including sun, heat, cold, wind, and rain.
Fast-paced, physically demanding setting with changing site conditions.
