About the Role:
The Medical Records position is critical in ensuring the accurate and secure management of patient health information within healthcare facilities across the United States. This role involves organizing, maintaining, and updating medical records in compliance with legal, regulatory, and institutional standards to support quality patient care and operational efficiency. The individual will serve as a key liaison between healthcare providers, patients, and administrative staff to facilitate the timely retrieval and dissemination of medical information. Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in health information management preferred.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data entry procedures.
- Strong understanding of patient privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Certified Medical Records Technician (CMRT).
- Experience working in a healthcare setting, such as hospitals, clinics, or medical offices.
- Proficiency with advanced EHR software and health information management systems.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with clinical and administrative teams.
- Knowledge of medical coding and billing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Review, organize, and maintain patient medical records in both electronic and paper formats to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, regarding the confidentiality and security of patient information.
- Coordinate with healthcare providers and administrative staff to retrieve and update medical records as needed for patient care and billing purposes.
- Manage the release of medical records in accordance with patient consent and legal requirements, maintaining detailed logs of all disclosures.
- Assist in auditing medical records for quality assurance and support the implementation of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
