Associate Teacher - Intermediate/Senior
Full- Time, Two Year Contract, Starting Late August 2026

JOB PURPOSE
The York School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Associate Teacher to join our dynamic Associate Teacher Development Program, a structured multi-year pathway designed to support early-career educators in becoming confident, impactful teachers. Through a combination of hands-on classroom experience, and ongoing professional learning, you will progressively build your skills from foundational practice to independent teaching. From day one, you will be paired with an experienced Mentor Teacher who provides ongoing coaching and feedback, along with participation in the school’s Growth & Development Program.
You will play a key role in our Middle & Senior School, working closely with students and faculty to support teaching and learning. Responsibilities include assisting in the classroom, covering classes, contributing to co-curricular programming, supervising student activities, and engaging in the full life of the school. Over time, you will develop expertise in classroom management, collaboration, assessment, communication, and innovative technology integration, all within a program intentionally designed to prepare you for long-term success in education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Will have the opportunity to assist teachers in planning and delivering engaging curriculum in your assigned classrooms
Work with small groups and individual students, providing guidance on classwork and projects
Infuse The York School’s mission, vision, and values into all curricular and co-curricular activities
Embrace innovative teaching techniques and technology to enhance the learning experience
Create a positive, engaging teaching and learning environment through effective classroom management practices
Collaborate closely with the IB Coordinator and colleagues within and across sections to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to teaching and learning
Create a positive and engaging teaching and learning environment through adept classroom management practices and techniques
Contribute to student co-curricular and athletic programs as a teacher lead/supervisor or coach
Contribute to student experiential learning by supervising overnight excursions and ensuring a safe, engaging, and educational experience
Participate in supervision duties, staff meetings, and other required engagements, and perform additional job-related responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
A Bachelor’s degree, B.Ed. and membership in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
Intermediate/Senior qualifications required
Classroom experience an asset, either volunteering or teaching
Training and experience teaching the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and/or the Diploma Program (DP) is considered an asset
Strong ability to work as part of a collaborative team
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team, contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Strong ability to engage collaboratively with students, parents, and staff, prioritizing a service-oriented approach by ensuring professionalism, respect, and responsiveness in all interactions
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
Proficiency in navigating a technologically rich school environment, with expertise in Google Workspace considered an asset

The York School Campus, Toronto
Occasional evening, overnight and weekend travel for school trips required
WHAT WE OFFER
Compensation is based on the Associate Teacher Faculty Salary Grid which varies by years of applicable teaching experience. The target hiring range for this position is $58,719 - $64,532.
