About This Position
Job Summary:
The SMT Technician is responsible for supporting the operation of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment in a high-reliability manufacturing environment. This role focuses on executing production tasks, monitoring processes, and maintaining consistent quality of electronic components while developing technical skills.
The SMT Technician works under general supervision and collaborates with team members to meet production goals, while escalating equipment or process issues as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate SMT production equipment, including Yamaha pick-and-place machines, to manufacture electronic assemblies.
- Perform basic machine setups and assist with production changeovers as required.
- Conduct routine maintenance, cleaning, and inspections of SMT equipment.
- Monitor production processes and identify potential issues; escalate concerns to senior technicians or supervisors.
- Ensure compliance with safety, ESD, and quality control standards.
- Follow work instructions, process documentation, and production schedules to complete assigned tasks.
- Accurately complete production records, logs, and reports.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and goals.
- Support departmental initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Willingness to learn SMT processes and develop technical skills in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to follow work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience operating SMT or other manufacturing equipment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of SMT manufacturing processes.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods and frequently perform tasks that require repetitive motion, such as typing on a keyboard.
- Regular use of a computer, telephone, and headset is required, including participation in virtual meetings via Microsoft Teams.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and move throughout production and office areas.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required to work with small electronic components and precision equipment.
- This is primarily an office-based role located within a shared open-concept office inside a warehouse facility. The work environment may include elevated noise levels due to open workspaces and conversational noise. Employees should be comfortable working in a setting where sound carries and interruptions may occur.
