About This Position

Position Summary:

The Certified Designer will be responsible for designing multiple projects, directing and/or leading other design professionals within their discipline, and working with other design disciplines internal and external to PEC to develop engineering solutions for PEC’s Clients. This position will be responsible for providing design deliverables for a variety of projects, while maintaining PEC’s standard of excellence. This position utilizes BIM/CAD software, hand calculations, and computer-based calculations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for project completion in accordance with quality assurance policies, standards and project specifications
  • Prepare and review technology plans and drawings
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies
  • Perform and/or direct technology design, coordination with other design staff for construction documents and specification production in compliance with building codes, construction administration, and development of reports/studies
  • Serve as an advisor to the Project Manager, identify and communicate any potential risk to the project in a timely fashion
  • Perform and/or direct design computations by hand and by computer software
  • Use experience, education, and judgement to make informed decisions. Retain knowledge and build on previous experiences to increase capabilities in breadth and complexity
  • Organize multiple projects and tasks and complete them in a timely manner, on schedule, and per PEC Standards. Oversee tasks that have been delegated to other designers and support staff
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with the design team to complete design tasks on numerous projects
  • Perform quality control reviews at appropriate milestones
  • Mentor, train and develop less experienced staff
  • Participate in business development activities to include developing and maintaining relationships with clients
  • Travel is required on an occasional, as‑needed basis and will vary by project; some assignments may require periodic monthly travel, while others may require little to no travel.
  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company’s discretion

Special Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to work independently and with others, with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing engineering plans, reports, and documentation
  • Familiarity with local regulations, permitting processes, and design standards
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Knowledge and skill in determining project requirements, setting project scope of work, determining design budgets, determining preliminary construction budgets, and review of contracts
  • Strong work ethic
  • Experience with industry accepted software as described below:
  • AutoDesk Revit
  • AutoDesk AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Bluebeam Revu
  • AFMG EASE preferred
  • AFMG EASERA preferred
  • Experience with codes and regulations, interpreting plans, and design discipline specific project components as described below:
  • Access Control, Intrusion Detection, and Closed-Circuit Television System Design (Security) preferred
  • Audio-Visual System Design preferred
  • Public Address and Paging System Design preferred
  • Telecommunications Cabling Design including Horizontal and Backbone
  • Outside Plant (OSP) Cabling Design preferred
  • Wi-Fi Network Design preferred
  • Fire Alarm System Design preferred
  • Nurse Call System Design preferred
  • Distributed Antenna systems Design for Cellular and Responder Radios preferred
  • Conduit and Pathway for Technology System Design preferred
  • Cyber-Security Controls Design preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in appropriate field of study from an accredited college required
  • B.S. Degree in an appropriate field of study from an accredited college is preferred
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in technology preferred

License and Certification:

  • Avixa CTS-D, BICSI RCDD, or ISC2 CISSP required

Duties involved require moving materials that weigh up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator and similar machines. At times, bending, reaching, standing, and walking may be required.
