Position Summary

The Electronics Test & Repair Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex electronic assemblies that fail In-Circuit (ICT) or Functional testing. This role acts as a bridge between the production line and the engineering team, performing deep-dive root cause analysis on failures. You will either perform high-precision repairs personally or provide detailed technical feedback to the rework team to ensure units meet quality standards.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Failure Diagnosis: Analyze test failure logs (ICT/Functional) and use diagnostic tools (multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.) to identify root causes down to the component level.
  • Hands-on Repair: Perform precision soldering, de-soldering, and rework on Surface Mount (SMT) and Through-Hole components following IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Feedback & Collaboration: Provide clear, actionable instructions to the rework department for high-volume repairs and collaborate with Test Engineers to identify recurring yield issues.
  • Data Logging: Accurately record failure modes, repair actions, and part usage in the manufacturing tracking system to support quality metrics.
  • Test Support: Assist in setting up or verifying ICT fixtures and functional test benches when troubleshooting equipment vs. product issues.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized work area adhering to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protocols and safety regulations.
  • Assist with production activities as required.
  • Guide, train, and mentor operator personnel as deemed necessary.
  • Other duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Applicants must possess any education, training or experience necessary to perform all essential duties and responsibilities associated with the position. • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics, assembly drawings, and technical manuals.
    • Advanced skill in using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMM), and signal generators.
    • Expert-level soldering and PCB rework skills (certification in IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 is a plus).
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical issues clearly to both engineers and production staff.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, credit check, and other relevant background information deemed necessary by WDC.

Physical Requirements:
