About This Position
Job Summary
The Junior Project Estimator is responsible for evaluating project requirements and preparing accurate cost estimates for telecommunications construction projects. This role analyzes project documents, labor needs, materials, equipment, and timelines to develop comprehensive project budgets. The Junior Project Estimator collaborates closely with operations teams, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure estimates are accurate and competitive while supporting successful project delivery.
The position reports to our corporate office Monday-Friday
Remote work is not permitted.
Key Responsibilities
Project Estimators work closely with consultants, contractors, accountants, and operations personnel to deliver accurate financial and budget analysis. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing requirement documents, blueprints and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project
- Determining what factors of production will influence the cost of a service or product
- Preparing material estimates and cost estimates for the product or service
- Creating labor estimates for any project
- Developing and maintaining relationships with company vendors and contractors
- Managing bids from vendors and contractors
- Using bid data to prepare detailed cost analysis
- Presenting prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders
- Compiling and recording actual cost
- Ability to work overtime as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
Successful Project Estimators combine strong analytical skills with excellent communication and organizational abilities.
Required skills include:
- Strong mathematics, statistics, and data analysis skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to interpret technical documents and construction plans
- Experience preparing material takeoffs and cost estimates for large projects
- Strong report writing and strategic planning skills
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and database tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Excel or similar spreadsheet required.
- Familiarity with bid software or bid automation tools (entry level acceptable)
- Entry-level experience with CRM Databases preferred.
- Entry-level experience with Power BI preferred.
- Ability to use Google Earth or other GIS platforms and create/edit KMZ files
- Basic knowledge of telecommunications or utility construction terminology including:
- Directional Drilling
- Plowing
- Trenching
- Handholes
- Fiber Splicing
- OSP/ Riber Construction
Experience Requirements
- Entry-level candidates: Minimum 1 year of estimating experience in construction, telecom, utilities, or related industries or 2+ years of OSP engineering or construction project estimating.
