About This Position
The program’s Activities Assistant will work closely with the Upward Bound and Upward Bound Rural (UB/UBR) Project Directors to ensure success in meeting the program’s purpose and objectives by supervising and implementing student summer activities. The assistant will also assist the Project Director in enforcing security and program policies.
- Responsible for the direct supervision of UB/UBR summer participants.
- Responsible for the activities conducted for summer participants.
- Will be “on call” during both shifts to ensure staff coverage.
- Attend any necessary training sessions as needed.
- Supervises and implements evening activities including, but not limited to dorm checks, signing in and out of the dorms, recreation, visitation, and mealtimes.
- Intervene, as necessary, to protect students from injuring other students and/or themselves according to policy.
- Effectively communicates emergency situations in a timely manner to co-workers and the Project Directors as required.
- Monitors student visitation periods. Ensures outside individuals sign in.
- Maintains receipts for any meal or activity transaction as well as sign-in sheets.
- Completes required documentation in an accurate timely manner.
- Maintains confidentiality of students.
- Reports unusual activity, vandalism, maintenance issues, injuries, and medical concerns as needed. Notifies Project Directors as necessary. Notifies CBC Police as necessary.
- Report students’ behavior problems as they arise.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED equivalent.
Must have the ability to effectively work with employees, outside contacts, and a diverse student population.
Must demonstrate sensitivity towards the target area population.
Preferred Qualifications:Associate degree preferred. Relevant job experience may be substituted for a preferred college degree.
Previous experience working with or participating in a TRIO program and/or security and program policies.
Travel Requirements:
May accompany UB/UBR staff and participants to cultural activities, campus tours, and volunteer activities on school buses and/or charter buses.
Environment:Will conduct most job functions on the Coastal Bend College campus and dorms. There will be daily interaction with students in a fast-paced environment.
