About the Role
Structural Support Systems is seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Quality Control Manager with a strong foundation in steel fabrication to support the execution of quality standards across our custom-built structures. This role works closely with the Quality Control Manager to help ensure products are fabricated accurately, safely, and in full alignment with approved drawings and specifications. This is a hands-on, technical support role that bridges communication between the CADD design team and the fabrication shop. The Assistant Quality Control Manager plays a key role in inspections, documentation, and real-time problem-solving — helping the team “get it right the first time.”

Key Responsibilities
Product Quality Support
• Assist with reviewing shop drawings and fabrication details for clarity, accuracy, and buildability.
• Support inspections of in-process and completed steel components for dimensional accuracy, weld quality, surface finish, and overall compliance with specifications.
• Identify, document, and report nonconformances related to welds, materials, or fitment.
• Work alongside welders and fabricators to reinforce best practices and improve quality outcomes.
• Support adherence to internal quality standards and applicable industry requirements.
Technical Communication & Collaboration
• Support the Quality Control Manager as a technical liaison between the CAD design team and fabrication personnel.
• Participate in drawing reviews and assist in identifying potential fabrication or quality concerns.
• Communicate feedback to designers and engineers to help reduce rework and improve drawing clarity.
• Collaborate with shop leads and supervisors to help address real-time quality issues on the shop floor.
Process Integrity & Continuous Improvement
• Assist in maintaining quality inspection checklists, SOPs, and quality documentation.
• Support internal audits and consistent application of QA processes across projects.
• Help track recurring quality issues and assist with recommending process improvements.
• Promote a culture of precision, accountability, and pride in workmanship.
Requirements:Required Experience & Skills
• 3–5 years of experience in steel fabrication, welding inspection, or a structural manufacturing environment.
• Solid understanding of welding principles, fabrication tolerances, grinding/finishing methods, and coatings.
• Ability to visually evaluate welds for continuity, penetration, defects, and finish.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting structural steel drawings and fabrication details.
• Experience working with or supporting CAD and engineering teams preferred.
• Skilled in using measurement tools such as calipers, tape measures, angle finders, and levels.
• Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills.
Education
• Associate’s degree in a technical or manufacturing-related discipline preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, heat, and heavy equipment.
• Capable of standing and walking for extended periods (up to 10 hours).
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders or stairs to inspect components.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull tools and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Visual acuity sufficient to read drawings, measure tolerances, and inspect welds and finishes accurately.
• Manual dexterity for handling measurement and inspection tools.
• Required use of PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, ear protection, gloves, and high-visibility vest.
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors as required.
