The Shift Leader is responsible for supervising and managing a team during their assigned work period, ensuring smooth daily operations, and maintaining high performance standards.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Safety: Understand how to properly respond to emergency situations on shift.
How to properly evaluate, stabilize, and communicate issues that arise on shift (nights/weekends).
Quality: Must be able to effectively perform quality testing on shift.
Retain samples, test samples, and take corrective action when necessary (nights/weekends).
Ensure ALL hourly quality checks are performed in all required areas of production.
Understand workmanship standards (and nuances for varying customers), ensure operators are properly recording information hourly, and appropriately communicate any non-conformances.
Verify that all quality information is updated.
Proper technical data sheets and workmanship standards are posted.
Production: Lead pre-shift meetings and facilitate effective shift handoffs for all operators.
Focus on Safety, Quality, Production, and Warehousing.
Assign tasks to team and keep everyone on task.
Communicate daily expectations to employees at the start of shift to ensure shift continuity to a common goal.
Ensure all scheduled employees arrive on shift with appropriate safety gear and respond as needed.
Assist team members in meeting goals.
Ensure production goals are met.
Communicate operational, maintenance, electrical, etc. issues to operations manager, resulting in improved runnability and increased production.
Verify all hourly production data is recorded.
Communicate and maintain standards related to quality, production, 5S, and housekeeping.
Provide coaching and corrective action to employees when necessary.
Perform Employee Reviews:
New hire: 30 / 60 / 90-day reviews
Job change reviews
Annual reviews
Warehouse / Plant Support:
Trained in all material handling equipment and provide support when necessary:
Fork truck, clamp truck, box clamp
Understand outbound shipping and inbound receiving procedures:
Verifying items, quantities, conditions, storage locations, etc.
Must be trained on aerial lifts:
Articulating boom (man-lift)
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must have 3 years continuous employment with one employer.
Prefer previous manufacturing experience, but not required.
The ability to communicate, apply, understand, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form, as well as addressing any issues or problems.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment with exposure to temperature extremes, loud noise, and industrial hazards.
Engage in manual labor (bending, walking, climbing) for an entire 12-hour shift.
Lift 40 lbs. frequently, 40–50 lbs. occasionally, and over 50 lbs. minimally (team lifting required for heavier loads).
Wear and comply with all required PPE (eye and ear protection, steel-toed shoes, face masks).
Work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required.
Shift Schedule:
This position follows a 12-hour rotating schedule with a mix of day and night shifts. Example schedule:
4 Days: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
Next 4 Days: OFF
4 Nights: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
Next 4 Days: OFF
Pay: $21 to 26 per hour (Pay within range dependent on experience and qualifications)
