About This Position
Position Summary
The Asphalt Plant Foreman is responsible for the efficient management of plant operations, including personnel, equipment, scheduling, safety, quality, and project completion within budget and on schedule. This role may involve asphalt material management, equipment oversight, plant operations, and electrical systems, as well as serving as the primary or secondary plant operator.
The Foreman coordinates the daily operations of the crew, delegating responsibilities, maintaining discipline, fostering teamwork, and ensuring a safe and productive work environment. This position demands a positive work ethic, hands-on leadership, and strong communication skills.
Key Duties & Responsibilities- Perform the role of plant operator as needed.
- Supervise and direct crew to complete projects as instructed by the Project Manager, addressing personnel and HR matters as necessary.
- Provide new personnel with proper orientation on company policies, safety requirements, and job responsibilities.
- Conduct periodic evaluations of assigned personnel, focusing on performance and professional development.
- Assist crews in the proper use of equipment to improve performance, control costs, maintain quality, increase productivity, enhance communication, and uphold job site housekeeping.
- Inspect equipment, arrange for maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Order materials required for plant operation and project needs.
- Monitor employee attendance, maintain regular work hours, and complete accurate payroll records.
- Prepare and submit required daily reports promptly and accurately.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and all applicable laws and regulations.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols; lead daily safety huddle meetings.
- Maintain positive relations with the public, engineers, architects, inspectors, and customers to support project progress and uphold company reputation.
- Work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and extended outdoor shifts in all weather conditions.
- Perform any additional duties as required by project or plant operations.
- Heavy physical effort, including lifting or moving materials and equipment over 60 lbs.
- Frequent work around noise, dust, heat, cold, oil, and heavy equipment.
- Use of personal protective equipment as required.
- Ability to clearly exchange information, follow detailed instructions, and respond quickly to operational needs.
- Proven leadership experience in asphalt plant or related heavy construction operations.
- Strong knowledge of asphalt plant processes, equipment operation, and safety regulations.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work long and irregular hours in varying weather conditions.
