Environmental Services Supervisor at Appalachian Regional Healthcare System – Boone, North Carolina

Location: Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time | Shifts Vary

As an Environmental Operations Supervisor at UNC Health Appalachian, you’ll lead a dedicated Environmental Services (EVS) team committed to ensuring a clean, safe, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff. You’ll oversee daily operations, manage staff schedules, and maintain facility cleanliness — all while supporting our mission to provide excellent, compassionate care across the High Country.

• Compensation: Starting pay begins at $18.15 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.
• Schedule: Full-time, variable shifts including weekends and holidays.

• Supervise, train, and schedule Environmental Services (EVS) staff to ensure consistent quality and safety standards.
• Monitor work assignments and inspect facilities to maintain cleanliness, infection control, and operational excellence.
• Manage inventory, ordering, and distribution of cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing ceiling tiles, light bulbs, and minor repairs.
• Support the department by promoting teamwork, safety, and accountability.
• Collaborate with hospital leadership to ensure compliance with ARHS policies and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate effectively with staff, patients, families, and other departments to support a positive hospital environment.

Education:

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.

Experience:

• Previous experience in Environmental Services (EVS) required.

• Hospital or healthcare experience preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

• None required.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, follow instructions, and perform basic calculations.
• Excellent customer service and team-building skills.
• Knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, and infection control standards.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to and over 50 lbs.
• Exposure to chemicals, cleaning agents, and mechanical equipment.
• Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.
• May work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
