Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically skilled Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will assemble and fit structural steel components used in the defense, aerospace, agricultural, mining, and energy industries. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and a commitment to producing high-quality work in a safe and efficient manner.

This position is best suited for someone who works well independently, values precision, and takes pride in building products that meet exacting customer and ISO 9001 standards.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble structural steel components according to blueprints, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments (e.g., tape measure, torque wrench, grinder, chop saw) to ensure accurate and high-quality assembly.
  • Verify fit, alignment, and function of assembled parts throughout the build process.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for each stage of the assembly process using Epicor (MRP software – training provided).
  • Collaborate with the Assembly Lead, fellow team members, and Quality Control to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Follow all company safety policies and wear required PPE (respirator, gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
  • Operate an overhead crane, hi-lo or other material handling equipment to move parts safely (training provided).
  • Keep work area and equipment clean, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Participate in company-provided safety and technical training programs.
  • Stand for extended periods, climb ladders, bend, stoop, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Work required shift hours and overtime as needed to meet production deadlines.

Experience & Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years of experience using hand and power tools (grinders, wrenches, torque tools, etc.).

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of assembly principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Basic computer proficiency for logging data and accessing digital work instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail, manual dexterity, and problem-solving skills.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and within a small team.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and reference checks.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with MRP systems (Epicor preferred).
  • Prior experience assembling structural steel or working in defense, aerospace, agricultural, mining, or energy manufacturing.
  • Mechanical or blueprint-reading certifications.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and safe work practices.
  • Overhead crane certification.
  • Forklift (hi-lo) certification.
  • Demonstrated cross-training or leadership potential.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Work performed on the shop floor within a steel fabrication environment.
  • Exposure to typical manufacturing conditions such as noise, dust, and heat.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required at all times.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs.

Work Schedule:

  • Status: Full-Time, On-Site – (Location: Oxford, MI)
  • Standard Hours: Monday – Thursday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Flexibility: Occasional Fridays and weekends may be required depending on delivery deadlines and production demands.
  • Overtime: Available and may be required based on workload.
  • Travel: None
