ESTIMATOR
Role Summary
Prepares accurate, timely cost estimates for fabrication, ductwork, and metalworking projects while also supporting estimating needs for mechanical and general contracting work. Performs detailed takeoffs, solicits vendor pricing, and clearly defines scope, exclusions, and assumptions. Acts as a technical and commercial bridge between sales, operations, and project management.
Core Responsibilities
• Prepare material, labor, and equipment estimates for fabrication, ductwork, and metalworking scopes
• Perform drawing takeoffs from architectural, mechanical, and shop drawings
• Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor pricing
• Develop scope narratives, clarifications, inclusions, and exclusions
• Support mechanical and general contracting estimates as needed (HVAC, piping, accessories, misc. metals, related scopes)
• Maintain estimating databases, labor units, and historical cost data
• Coordinate with project managers, shop leadership, and field personnel to validate means and methods
• Identify risk items, constructability concerns, and value-engineering opportunities
• Assist sales and operations with budget pricing, change order pricing, and bid revisions
• Participate in handoff meetings to transition awarded work to project management
• Support post-bid reviews and cost-analysis feedback loops
Pay Band
• Negotiable (Salary / Exempt)
Performance Expectations (Measurable)
• Accuracy: Estimates awarded within ±5% of final project cost on controlled scopes
• Timeliness: 100% of assigned bids submitted by established deadlines
• Completeness: Zero scope gaps resulting from estimating omissions
• Responsiveness: Pricing and internal requests turned within required bid timelines
