Position Summary:
The CEVP Senior Advisor provides senior-level strategic leadership and expert counsel to the DNC and voter protection programs across the United States. Serving as a national resource on voting rights and election administration, the Senior Advisor is responsible for developing strategies to counter voter suppression and election subversion while actively triaging and troubleshooting critical voting-related issues and emergencies across the country.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with 4 – 6 states designated by DNC leadership to build and strengthen the state’s voter protection program. (The states will include Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and up to two additional states added by DNC leadership (including the Deputy Executive Director and the CEVP Director).) The work will include, for each state:
- Weekly one-hour calls with the state voter protection director (“VPD”), including training, mentoring, coaching, and advising
- Monitor reports about election administration in that state based on reports from the state voter protection team and in public media (VoteBeat, Democracy Docket, and electionline.org)
- Monitor the principal election law cases in that state through Democracy Docket
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the state voter protection team; help the state voter protection team triage and troubleshoot issues; share best practices for addressing issues
- Support the state voter protection team during early vote, Election Day, canvass, and certification, including availability outside regular business hours as needed during peak election periods; escalate significant matters within the DNC as appropriate
- Review reports provided by the state voter protection team
- Participate (with other DNC personnel) in calls with leaders of the state’s coordinated campaign
- Report on the state’s voter protection effort to DNC leaders, stakeholders, and other interested parties
- Help develop national voter protection programs and strategic initiatives, including training and materials for VPDs and senior voter protection staff
- Support cross-functional coordination with relevant DNC departments; work with DNC departments and state voter protection teams on metrics and data for voter protection
- Build and maintain relationships with DNC leadership and DNC departments
- Engage with key stakeholders and partner organizations at the local, state, and national level on voting rights and election administration matters
- Develop programs and materials, and produce reports, consistent with the foregoing
- Other duties as assigned to support the department and the DNC's mission.
Salary: The starting salary for the CEVP Senior Advisor position is $140,000.00, on an annualized basis, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This is a full-time, exempt position, that may require work on weekends.
