Job Description
Position Summary:
The Scientific Equipment Technician / Warehouse & Inventory Specialist performs hands-on inspection, maintenance, calibration, and handling of scientific and technical equipment, including air, water, and radiation monitoring systems. This position also supports day-to-day warehouse operations, asset accountability, and inventory control to ensure equipment readiness, compliance, and accurate property tracking. This is a non-supervisory, execution-focused role.
The Scientific Equipment Technician / Warehouse & Inventory Specialist performs hands-on inspection, maintenance, calibration, and handling of scientific and technical equipment, including air, water, and radiation monitoring systems. This position also supports day-to-day warehouse operations, asset accountability, and inventory control to ensure equipment readiness, compliance, and accurate property tracking. This is a non-supervisory, execution-focused role.
Scientific Equipment Technician Duties:
- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, and perform preventive maintenance on scientific and technical equipment, including air, water, and radiation monitoring systemsCalibrate instruments in accordance with manufacturer specifications and applicable standardsOperate and support environmental monitoring equipment used for air quality, water sampling, and radiological detection in field environmentsIdentify equipment issues and perform basic repairs or coordinate repair actions as directedMaintain service records, calibration logs, and equipment documentationPrepare, configure, and stage equipment for operational use, storage, or transport
Warehouse, Inventory & Asset Accountability Duties:
- Receive, inspect, store, issue, and track equipment, parts, and materialsMaintain accurate inventory and property records in designated systemsEnsure asset accountability of all assigned equipment, including serialized and sensitive itemsAssist with and support inventory audits, inspections, and property accountability reviewsConduct cycle counts and physical inventories; identify, document, and report discrepanciesPackage and prepare equipment for shipment in accordance with handling, labeling, and documentation requirementsMaintain an organized, clean, and secure warehouse environment
General Responsibilities:
- Follow established procedures, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirementsSupport internal and external audits by providing accurate records, documentation, and traceability of assetsCoordinate with team members to support equipment movement and operational requirementsIdentify issues or inefficiencies and report through appropriate channels
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or technical background preferred)Experience working with scientific, environmental, or radiological monitoring equipmentExperience supporting air, water, or radiation monitoring systems in field or operational settingsExperience in warehouse operations, inventory control, and asset accountabilityFamiliarity with calibration and preventive maintenance practicesBasic computer skills and experience with inventory or property management systemsAbility to lift and move equipment/materials in accordance with safety guidelines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferredExperience supporting government, military, or regulated environmentsKnowledge of property accountability, audit readiness, and/or hazardous material handling procedures
Skills & Competencies:
- Attention to detail and accuracyBasic troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsOrganization and time managementAbility to follow instructions and work within a teamClear written and verbal communication
Work Environment:
- Warehouse and field environmentsMay require standing, lifting, and handling equipment for extended periodsIndoor and outdoor work depending on operational needs
