Core Welding Responsibilities

  • Perform GMAW (MIG) welding on THI products in flat, horizontal, vertical, and occasional overhead positions.
  • Perform GTAW (TIG) welding on select THI products as required.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment, including selecting correct wire types/sizes and adjusting amperage, voltage, wire feed speed, and pulse settings per welding documentation.
  • Execute proper welding techniques to achieve required fusion, bead profile, travel speed, arc length, and torch angle.
  • Prepare joints and parts for welding, including cleaning, degreasing, grooving, scarfing, clamping, and tacking assemblies.
  • Quality & Inspection

  • Conduct visual inspections of welds, including hydro-tube welds, bead characteristics, and first-part checks.
  • Ensure proper tie-in of starts, stops, and passes.
  • Perform repair preparation (grinding, sanding) and complete repair welds using approved techniques.
  • Complete post-repair inspections and verify compliance with welding standards.
  • Maintain weld integrity with zero NCRs related to welder workmanship.
  • Finishing & Part Handling

  • Remove excess weld, slag, and spatter.
  • Wire-wheel, clean, or otherwise finish welded surfaces to specification.
  • Preheat parts to required temperatures using a hand torch when specified.
  • Safety, Ethics, and Teamwork

  • Follow all THI safety procedures and quality standards.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards in all work performed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to meet production goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED, or completion of a technical/vocational welding program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Ability to pass a 1G (Flat) 1" groove GMAW (MIG) qualification plate test as part of the pre-employment process.
  • Ability to pass a 5G or 6G groove GTAW (TIG) qualification test on 2.75" OD pipe with backing ring within 60 days of employment.
  • Proven proficiency in both GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) welding techniques (testing and on-the-job demonstration required).
  • Ability to follow written instructions, safety rules, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Basic math skills necessary for welding measurements (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
