API International is a family business that was established in Portland, Oregon in 1979. We are a manufacturer and engineering solutions provider that specializes in flanges, expansion joints, valves, other pipe fittings, and custom-fabricated parts for the Agriculture, Exhaust, HVAC, and Water Works markets. The Head of Quality & Engineering supports API by leading and managing the quality and engineering functions within API. This role involves overseeing the development and implementation of quality standards, engineering processes, and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize production and ensure the delivery of high-quality products to customers. Occasional travel, both domestic and international, will be required.
A typical day:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, quality engineers, and inspectors, including hiring, performance evaluation, and training, to ensure the team is knowledgeable about processes and procedures.
- Administration and improvement of the QMS and processes to maintain and improve API’s products.
- Oversee the creation of technical drawings, support documentation, and required records.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance.
- Identify opportunities for process and quality improvement.
- Monitor and address customer feedback.
- Analyze, interpret, and translate requirements from data sheets or engineering drawings (including GD&T).
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and other quality standards.
- Investigate and resolve quality-related problems.
- Communicate frequently and effectively with the executive team, internal and external customers, and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate requires the following:
- In-depth knowledge of quality assurance principles, quality control practices, and quality management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality management, industrial engineering, or related field. 5-10 years as a manager in quality, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical field.
- Mastery of root cause analysis and the corrective action process.
- Proficient in 2D AutoCAD and 3D software (Catia, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software is preferred.
- Ability to adjust in a fast-paced environment.

- Is highly organized and structured in their work.
- Possesses strong critical thinking skills and can proactively solve work-related challenges.
