Position: Summer House AssistantDepartment/Community: L’Arche AntigonishLocation: Antigonish, NS

Contract Period: May 1 - August 31, 2026Status: Full-time (approx. 40 hours per week)Schedule: Primarily evenings and weekends (with occasional flexibility based on community needs)

About the RoleThe Summer House Assistant supports core members to live meaningful, safe, and connected lives in community. This role focuses on day-to-day living support (meals, personal care as appropriate), community participation, companionship, and maintaining a warm, inclusive home environment aligned with L’Arche values. Only individuals who would be available to work full time for this period will be considered.

Key ResponsibilitiesProvide respectful, person-centred support to core members during evening and weekend shifts.

Support daily living activities: meals, medication prompts, personal care (as required), household routines, and transportation to activities.

Foster inclusion, dignity, choice, and relationship in all interactions.

Document supports and notable events according to community procedures.

Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming home environment; follow all health & safety protocols.

Communicate effectively with house leaders and team members to ensure continuity of care.

Qualifications & RequirementsExperience in community living, disability support, long-term care, or similar setting (paid or volunteer) is an asset.

Commitment to the mission and values of L’Arche; compassionate, patient, and reliable.

Strong communication and teamwork skills; able to take initiative and follow established routines.

Ability to assist with personal care respectfully (training provided as needed).

Current First Aid/CPR (or willingness to obtain).

Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (or on file/renewal as per policy).

Valid driver’s licence and acceptable driver’s abstract are assets.
