Job Description
JOB TITLE: Van DriverDIVISION: Adult Services DEPARTMENT: SEMCA PATHLOCATION: Highland Park American Job Center (AJC) 144 E. Manchester St., Highland Park, MI 48203REPORTS TO: Center ManagerFLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/HourlyCLASSIFICATION: Part-time (Working up to 24 hours per week)APPROVED DATE: 3/9/2026JOB SUMMARY: The Van Driver will transport participants in a 15 passenger van. The Van Driver will be responsible for transporting participants (to and from school, jobs, appointments, etc.) and be available as needed. This position requires an individual who will interact courteously and effectively with participants, staff and partners under varying circumstances. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:Drives a transportation vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule.Transports participants including staff to various locations.Supports staff in delivery of services to the community.Performs daily safety pre-trip checks, tires, brakes, windshield wipers, lights, oil, fuel, water to ensure that everything is in working order. Maintains the transportation vehicle in a clean and orderly condition and inspects and reports mechanical defects of malfunctions or maintenance issues to Facilities/Procurement Manager.Reports maintenance problems or youth participant incidents to supervisor immediately. Supports a safe work environment by performing duties in accordance with acceptable work procedures.Maintains driver logs, trip sheets, and fuel logs.Uses a personal computer to input information and maintain on various automated reporting systems as neededPerforms other related duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NONE JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum two (2) years of work related experience including driving experience. Must possess (3) years of customer service experience.Ability to interact with youth participants in a positive and productive manner.Excellent written and verbal communications skills.Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access).Ability to adhere to time constraints and schedules. Mental ability to handle pressures related to dealing with multiple individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of need.Knowledge of traffic regulations.General familiarity with surrounding areas.Drives vehicle in a safe manner and wears a safety belt when operating a vehicle at all times. Ability to read and comprehend a map.Must be 18 years of age and provide a valid State of Michigan Chauffeurs License.Must have access to reliable transportation. Must complete a background check including drug screen.Evening and/or weekend hours may be occasionally required.

Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 30 to 40 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work may involve ascending and descending stairs, and ramps, and will involve walking or standing for extended periods. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - The noise level in the work environment is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
