Automation Engineer at Demo 5-A PRO – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

We're looking to add an Automation Engineer to our team. As an Automation Engineer, your core responsibilities will involve analyzing an existing web application, writing automated end-to-end tests to cover new and existing features, and working on integrating automated tests into our Continuous Integration (CI) architecture.

Skills and Requirements

You should have experience with some or all of the following:

• Developing automated tests to verify the functionality of our web application
• Working alongside software engineers and a QA team in an Agile Scrum environment
• Developing end-to-end automated tests of new features as they're being developed

You should have familiarity and willingness to learn some of the following:

• Selenium or other web drivers
• Test frameworks and test runners like Behat/Mink, Cucumber/Capybara, Rspec, or Jasmine/Protractor
• Unit test frameworks (Karma, jUnit, PHPUnit, Test::Unit, etc.)

The following should describe you...

• Understanding of web applications and software architecture
• Ability to analyze software and develop automated test plans
• Extreme attention to detail (even minor issues and defects should make you unhappy)
• Willingness to dive into code and take on technical challenges
• Excellent written and verbal communicator
• 0-3 years of professional experience (prior work experience and internships are a plus)

It's great (but not required) to have experience in one or more of the following areas...

• Working in an Agile Scrum environment
• An understanding of TDD/BDD
• Writing code in at least one server side language (at a minimum be able to write code that uses basic control structures)
• Working with databases and writing basic SQL (at a minimum be able to query a relational database and understand different types of joins)
• Identifying common vulnerabilities and threats that web applications face

Sample questions

These are similar to questions you should be able to easily answer in a phone screen or an interview:

1) Write a simple BDD acceptance test scenario for a jobseeker uploading a resume.

2) Jobseekers can apply to multiple jobs. What would a database schema look like to support this? Write some example queries to retrieve data that associates jobseekers with their jobs.

3) Given a webpage with a text input box and a submit button, make a list of things you'd test for.
