About This Position

Summary

Perform mechanical and technical work on diesel and gas engines and generators, marine jet and standard propulsion systems, and small vessel and outboard systems on vessels ranging from 19-200 plus feet. You must be able to lead teams during repair projects. Mentor and train junior mechanics and engineers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical division for repairs
  • Schedule crews for work to be performed
  • Document all work completed
  • In depth knowledge of regulation related to US Coast Guard inspected vessels
  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot diesel, gas and propane engines, generators, jets, shaft and propellers as well as other associated machinery
  • Install pumps, build brackets associated with mechanical components
  • Install piping, fabricate manifolds, and install bathroom fixtures
  • Run fuel lines, wiring harnesses, control cables associated with marine engine installation
  • Rebuilding different kinds of diesel engines.
  • Lining up engines in new vessel builds for drive lines, exhaust, and saltwater plumbing.
  • Other tasks may be required associated with regular operations of the company, assigned by management group
  • Lead a small repair team for remote repairs

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Diesel Mechanic technical training or 5+ years in-depth diesel mechanic experience
  • Must be able to lift and carry at least 80lbs, climb ladders, work in small compartments/spaces, work on feet a full day, able to wear personal protective equipment such as respirator, safety glasses, hearing protection
  • Receive direction from and provide feedback to management group including job status, problems, better solutions or recommended adjustments to the plan
  • Able to and willing to work overtime if needed
  • Experience working with electronics and wiring systems, repair and installation a plus
  • Experience with boat plumbing a plus
  • Experience operating heavy machinery such as a forklift, tractor and travel lift a plus
  • Welding experience a plus (steel, stainless and aluminum)

Job Profile

  • Hours are flex week. Expect occasional over-time
  • Work in a shipyard (industrial shop) environment
  • May be dusty & below room temperature
  • Employee may be required to work outdoors year round
  • Supervisory position
