Overview:

The Gift Officer for the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation is a key member of the fundraising team, responsible for engaging donors and prospects with the primary goal of identifying and qualifying major gift donors and building the fundraising pipeline.

This position manages a portfolio of mid-level donors who give $1,000 or more annually, with the aim of increasing their giving to support hospital priorities.

The gift officer is tasked with cultivating relationships, preparing tailored solicitations, and developing strategies to maximize donor retention and impact.

Responsibilities:

  • A major part of the role involves portfolio and prospect management.
  • This includes identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding annual and mid-level donors.
  • The Gift Officer will develop strategies to increase giving levels and expand the major gift pipeline, managing a portfolio of at least 40 active donors annually with the goal of cycling through 125-150 donors per year.
  • The gift officer will also evaluate prospect lists to identify philanthropic interests and refer prospects to senior gift officers when appropriate.
  • They are responsible for executing fundraising strategies, establishing individual cultivation plans, and moving potential donors toward the closure of major gifts.
  • Additionally, the gift officer will steward new donor relationships to showcase impact and grow the pipeline.
  • The gift officer's duties also include donor proposal and communication development, such as preparing donor profiles, presentations, and proposals.
  • They will assist with strategic annual giving and stewardship initiatives and work closely with colleagues on fundraising efforts.
  • They must become familiar with all hospital funding priorities to align them with donor interests.
  • All donor activities and solicitations must be recorded in the Raiser's Edge NXT database in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree and at least two years of development or alumni experience in a professional office, preferably in a hospital or higher education setting.
  • The role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to manage confidential donor information.
  • The individual should be self-driven, highly organized, and able to work independently while also collaborating with a team.
  • They must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate analytical and fundraising skills to grow the donor pipeline.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends and a willingness to work in-person are also required, with remote flexibility for travel and other needs.
