About This Position

Summary

The Marine Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing aspects of daily marine operations at Icy Strait Point, including the management of deckhands, coordination of ship communications, scheduling of staff and vessel activities, and ensuring smooth integration with cruise ship programs. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality guest and marine operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise, and schedule deckhands to ensure safe and effective vessel and dockside operations.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ship communication, coordinating with Excursions, ISP Captains, and internal teams to support seamless vessel arrivals and departures.
  • Oversee scheduling for marine staff, ensuring adequate coverage and alignment with cruise ship calls and excursion needs. May work in conjunction with Compliance Officer.
  • Manage administrative functions including payroll submissions, timesheet approvals, compliance records, and reporting.
  • Work with the Compliance officer to maintain operational readiness of marine equipment, docks, and safety gear; coordinate with maintenance and compliance teams as needed.
  • Develop and implement with the Compliance Officer, standard operating procedures for marine operations, ensuring compliance with U.S. Coast Guard, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with Excursions, Guest Services, and other departments to coordinate programming and guest experiences tied to marine operations.
  • Monitor marine operations budget and control costs while maintaining service excellence.
  • Provide leadership to foster teamwork, accountability, and professional growth among marine staff.
  • Respond to emergencies and ensure safety protocols are followed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring physical exertion.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays during cruise season.
  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working near water required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in marine operations or maritime management; prior supervisory experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of vessel operations, marine safety regulations, and port/harbor operations.
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills, including scheduling and recordkeeping.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with cruise ship officers, pilots, and internal departments.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and scheduling/communications software.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain relevant maritime certifications (e.g., USCG endorsements, CPR/First Aid).
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and delivering exceptional guest service.
