POSITION SUMMARY

Reports To:
- Director of Health Information Management

Summary:
- Employee is primarily responsible for assigning codes to patient charts. Employee must work with denied claims and bills. Employee normally performs the duty assignments with broad parameters defined by general organizational regulations and procedures. Although some assignments are reviewed upon completion, usually total end results determine job effectiveness.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience
- One to two years related experience

Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
- Must have the ability to use the computer.

Certificates & Licenses
- Prefer completion of an accredited Health Information Technology program. Certification as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCA preferred.

Other Requirements
- Knowledge of legal issues related to health information. Knowledge and training related to ICD 10 coding guidelines preferred. Math skills to figure out daily-unbilled account totals and other statistical information. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease process. This position requires constant sitting and use of hands and fingers.
