DroneShield (ASX:DRO) offers an opportunity to solve some of world’s most challenging technical problems in the Electronic Warfare, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, RF sensing, Sensor Fusion and distributed systems. Working with high profile customers across militaries, government agencies, airports, critical infrastructure, law enforcement and many others.
With an approximately $1bn market capitalisation and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.
This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 170 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 300 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Work closely and collaboratively with a cross-functional team of interface designers, software developers and software engineers to continuously improve the product by acting as the voice of the customer within the development team.
- Conduct a broad range of systems engineering activities related to system design, system reviews, system specification, implementation and verification and validation activities.
- Application of architectural and design skills to decompose the system into a structured hierarchy of requirements and well-defined interfaces.
- Facilitate and provide input to the design of features to ensure they meet customer or business requirements, using a solid understanding of DroneShield’s product offering, technical and environmental constraints.
- Oversee the system verification process (includes software and hardware), ensuring testing documentation and validation is completed.
- Be a champion of engineering best practices and processes within the development team.
- Develop and maintain Project documentation.
- Conduct engineering investigation and analysis of system-level technical issues, taking ownership and tracking of the issues through to resolution.
- Seek advice and collaborate with senior staff in exploring solutions to problems which may arise.
- Establish and maintain close relationships with internal and external stakeholders and customers. Develop strong, reliable channels of communication with end customers from a range of technical and cultural backgrounds.
- Attendance at meetings with customers and other key stakeholders.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position.
- Demonstratable knowledge and experience of System Engineering principles and processes is essential.
- Experience working with software intensive systems is essential.
- Understanding of agile principles is preferred.
- Previous experience on Defence projects.
- Australian Citizen and able to successfully obtain and maintain a minimum Baseline Security Clearance is essential.
