Director Software Engineering

This leadership role sits at the intersection of engineering excellence, product innovation, and organizational strategy, responsible for shaping and scaling the technical direction of large, complex software systems. You will lead multiple engineering teams while defining the architecture, standards, and practices that enable high-performing, scalable, and secure platforms. The role requires a strong balance of strategic vision and hands-on technical credibility, with the ability to influence across product, business, and technology stakeholders. You will be responsible for building engineering culture, developing leaders, and driving execution across distributed teams. In a fast-paced, evolving environment, you will guide modernization initiatives, cloud transformation, and adoption of emerging technologies. This position offers high visibility and impact, with direct influence on enterprise-level technical decisions and long-term platform evolution.

Accountabilities:
  • Define and execute the technical vision and engineering strategy aligned with business and product objectives.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering leaders and teams, fostering a culture of performance, innovation, and accountability.
  • Oversee architecture, design, and scalability of large-scale distributed software systems across multiple technology stacks.
  • Drive engineering excellence initiatives, including best practices, standards, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Partner closely with product and cross-functional leadership to align technical direction with business priorities.
  • Guide technology selection, modernization efforts, and adoption of cloud, DevOps, and emerging technologies.
  • Establish metrics, governance, and processes to ensure quality, reliability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Lead resource planning, technical roadmap development, and prioritization of engineering initiatives.
  • Oversee incident management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning at an organizational level.
  • Promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning across engineering teams.
  • Manage technical debt reduction and drive long-term platform sustainability.
  • Engage in industry trends and external partnerships to influence technical direction and innovation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 8+ years in engineering leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading and scaling large engineering organizations and distributed teams.
  • Strong expertise across full-stack development, cloud platforms, DevOps practices, and modern architecture patterns.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and execute technical roadmaps for complex, large-scale systems.
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies and enterprise engineering practices.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to translate business goals into scalable technical solutions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills across executive-level audiences.
  • Proven ability to drive innovation, modernization, and organizational transformation.
  • Experience managing engineering performance, delivery excellence, and technical governance.
