Job Description

Martha Jefferson House is seeking two dedicated and reliable Cooks to join our Dining Services team, where quality food and exceptional care go hand in hand.

We are currently hiring for:
• Breakfast & Lunch Cook – Ideal for early risers preparing fresh, nourishing meals
• Flexible Shift Cook – Perfect for someone adaptable to varying schedules

Position Summary

The Cook assists the Director of Dining Services in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and well-organized kitchen while preparing wholesome and nutritious meals for residents and employees. Responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking menu items using standardized recipes and ensuring proper food storage and sanitation.

May assume responsibility for kitchen operations in the absence of the Director or Chef.

Essential Functions

• Follow food safety, sanitation, and preparation standards
• Prepare menu items using standardized recipes
• Ensure food quality, taste, and presentation
• Record food and equipment temperatures
• Plan cooking schedules for timely service
• Coordinate special diets with leadership
• Store and label food properly
• Inspect and discard outdated food items
• Receive and store deliveries
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and equipment
• Clean and reset steam tables
• Assist with dishwashing duties as needed
• Report equipment issues promptly
• Supervise aides when needed
• Ensure end-of-day cleanliness and kitchen security
• Prepare food in advance per menu schedule
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Experience in commercial or healthcare kitchen preferred
• Knowledge of food safety standards
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Flexibility for varying schedules
