Job Description

Job Summary

The OMFS Resident provides dental care under the supervision of a related licensed professional, while receiving advanced education and training in a specific area of dentistry. Works closely with patients, conducts various dental procedures, diagnoses oral health issues, and participates in research and education. Gains hands-on experience in a chosen specialty and develops advanced clinical skills.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Work Experience:

One year of experience in a dental practice or clinical setting preferred. Specializations in areas such as orthodontics, periodontics, or cosmetic dentistry are preferred. Familiarity with dental practice management software preferred.

License/Registration/Certification:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Licensed to practice in the state of Texas or Exception Tracking Number (ENT) issued by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners required.

Education and Training:

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.

Skills:

  1. Ability to accurately assess and diagnose dental conditions through patient history, physical exams, imaging, and lab tests.
  2. Ability to understand, develop and execute appropriate treatment plans based on a patient’s needs and dental health.
  3. Strong skills in performing a wide range of dental procedures, including restorative treatments, extractions, root canals, and surgeries.
  4. Exceptional hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills are required for precise dental procedures.
  5. Familiarity with the latest dental tools, imaging systems, and technologies used in diagnosis and treatment.
  6. Strong knowledge of human anatomy, particularly the head, neck, and oral cavity.
  7. Understanding of medications used in dentistry, their interactions, and effects on patient care.
  8. Proficiency in maintaining hygiene and sterilization protocols to ensure safe procedures.
  9. Ability to manage medical emergencies that may arise during treatment, such as allergic reactions or dental trauma.
  10. Effective communication with patients, providing clear explanations of diagnoses, treatment options, and procedures.
  11. Ability to work well with specialists, dental assistants, hygienists, and other healthcare professionals.
  12. Ability to efficiently manage multiple patient cases, schedules, and prioritize tasks while remaining organized under pressure.
