Position Overview
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations of the hotel, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and operational integrity across all accounting functions. This role supports the Director of Finance by managing financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, supervising accounting processes, and providing meaningful financial insights that support business decisions and profitability. The Accounting Manager plays a critical role in safeguarding hotel assets while ensuring timely and accurate financial information for property and corporate leadership.
What You'll Do
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Oversee daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare, review, and reconcile financial statements, balance sheets, income statements, and departmental reports.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
- Monitor financial transactions and ensure the integrity of accounting data.
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and reduce financial risk.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, corporate procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct audits and reconciliations related to cash handling, purchasing activities, and inventory controls.
- Support audit readiness and assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Partner with operational leaders to reinforce compliance with financial procedures and documentation standards.
Financial Analysis & Business Support
- Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for hotel and corporate leadership.
- Provide operational departments with financial insights that support revenue growth, expense control, and profitability.
Leadership & Team Development
- Train, coach, and support accounting team members to ensure high performance and accuracy.
- Review and approve reconciliations, invoices, deposits, journal entries, and other accounting transactions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the accounting team.
- Assist in developing processes that improve efficiency and financial accuracy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with hotel departments to promote budget accountability and accurate financial reporting.
- Provide guidance regarding purchasing procedures, payroll processes, audit requirements, and financial controls.
- Support vendor relations, contract review, and financial documentation needs across the property.
Required Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Hospitality accounting experience preferred.
- Experience working with hotel financial systems preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in accounting software, financial systems, and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and sound judgment in financial decision-making.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
