Job Description

Geodesicx, Inc. is looking for a Technical Writer to join our system administration project team in the Charleston, SC area.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating, maintaining, and updating comprehensive technical documentation critical to the project's success.
  • The Technical Writer will be responsible for producing a wide range of materials, including detailed user manuals, system administration guides, protocol documents, and help files. These documents will support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of our systems and will be essential for both technical staff and end-users.
  • Collaboration with technical staff is a key aspect of this role. The Technical Writer will work closely with system engineers, developers, and other technical team members to understand the intricacies and requirements of the project. This collaboration is crucial to ensure that all documentation accurately reflects the system functionalities and user needs. The ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly language is essential.
  • Attention to detail is paramount. The Technical Writer will regularly review and revise content to ensure its accuracy and relevance. They will also be responsible for proofreading documents to maintain clarity and grammatical correctness. Additionally, the role involves managing the organization and distribution of all documentation, making sure it is easily accessible to all team members and stakeholders.
  • The ideal candidate should possess strong technical writing skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, and the capability to simplify complex technical concepts. Experience in systems administration or a related technical field is highly beneficial, along with familiarity with the tools and technologies relevant to the project. The Technical Writer will be a crucial member of the system administration team, playing a vital role in the project's efficiency and success.

Experience Requirements:

Technical Writer III:

  • Six (6) years with degree or ten (10) years with HS/GED of experience developing, writing, and editing material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
  • Individual receives assignment from supervisor, and is capable of observing production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
  • Individual shall be able to interview production and engineering personnel and to read journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods, and reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Individual shall be capable of studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail, organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology; and review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
  • Individual shall be capable of performing the following tasks: maintain records and files of work and revisions, select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material; assist in laying out material for publication, arrange for typing, duplication and distribution of material, write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases, edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel. Individual shall be capable of writing material regarding work methods and procedures.

Education:

  • Associate's Degree or High School Diploma/GED.

Security Clearance:

  • Must be eligible to hold and maintain a SECRET clearance.
