STREETS LABORER in Palatka, Florida at City of Palatka

General Description

The essential function of the position within the organization is to perform various types of semi-skilled and skilled work and operate equipment involved in the repair and maintenance to the city streets, storm sewer system and other municipal property. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs various street maintenance, including but not limited to; pothole patching, flagging and traffic control, weed management/removal, mowing, edging, weed eating, brick street repair, and street sweeping.
• Performs right-of-way, sidewalk and trail maintenance including but not limited to; asphalt sod replacement, dirt and seed placement, tree trimming and removal, and concrete sidewalk removal and repair.
• Performs storm sewer system maintenance including but not limited to; cleaning and repairing catch basins, manholes and other structures; aids in inspection of storm sewer system.
• Works with materials such as bituminous materials, concrete, brick, sand, gravel, dirt, sod and trees.
• Operates equipment such as landscaping power and hand tools, backhoe, dump truck, street sweepers, vibratory plate tamp, jet vacuum machines, and other miscellaneous equipment as assigned.
• May perform as a lead worker when necessary and assigned.
• Maintains maintenance records and estimates and requisitions supplies, materials, and equipment when necessary and assigned.
• Completes trash pickup at parks or deceased animals on roadways as assigned.
• Maintains effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

Environment &Physical Requirements

• Regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions or other disagreeable elements.
• May be exposed to hazardous conditions.
• May spend time bending or twisting, kneeling or crouching, making repetitive motions, standing, and using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• May be required to wear common protective or safety equipment.
• Ability and agility to perform various job duties in all weather conditions including lifting and/or interacting with job related appurtenances and equipment which might weigh more than 75 pounds.
