Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions across multiple business entities. This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the company's financial operations through effective financial management, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and accurate financial reporting.
Working closely with the Chief Administrative Officer and executive leadership, the Accounting Director oversees the full accounting cycle while providing financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting support, and strategic recommendations that contribute to informed decision-making and long-term organizational success.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
• Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that promote financial integrity and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), tax regulations, and all applicable federal, state, and local financial reporting requirements.
• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, management reports, and executive summaries.
• Partner with executive leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and organizational growth initiatives.
• Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, capital expenditures, and financial performance across multiple business entities.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, financial reviews, and relationships with external auditors, financial institutions, and tax professionals.
• Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations that improve profitability, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability.
• Develop financial reporting tools, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support executive decision-making.
• Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accurate payroll processing, compensation reporting, and benefits accounting.
• Support acquisitions, organizational growth initiatives, and implementation of financial systems and process improvements.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial records, executive information, and proprietary business data.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides leadership and supervision for accounting personnel, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general accounting functions. Responsible for staffing recommendations, coaching, employee development, performance management, succession planning, and departmental leadership in partnership with Human Resources.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Comparable experience demonstrating the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for formal education.
• Seven (7) or more years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and financial analysis.
• Experience managing the complete accounting cycle within a multi-entity or complex business environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading accounting teams and developing financial processes.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation abilities.
• Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting applications.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound financial judgment.
PREFERRED
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, renewable energy, industrial operations, or multi-company organizations.
• Experience with ERP implementations, financial system conversions, or organizational growth initiatives.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning.
• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is performed primarily in a professional office environment with regular interaction throughout company operations and occasional visits to operational facilities. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, financial analysis, meetings, and presentations.
Occasional travel between company locations may be required. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when entering designated operational areas.
