Job Description

Postdoctoral Fellow – Cancer Cell Dormancy, Metastasis, and Host Niches

The Aguirre-Ghiso Laboratory at the Cancer Dormancy Institute, Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx, New York City), is seeking an ambitious and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to join our team.

This position focuses on how host-dependent variation shapes the dormancy and awakening of disseminated cancer cells in breast cancer and melanoma. We are particularly interested in aging-related changes in host tissues and systemic signals that influence target organs such as the liver and lung, and how these cues determine whether disseminated cancer cells enter, maintain, or escape dormancy.

The fellow will integrate and develop cutting-edge approaches, including:

  • Genomics and epigenomics

  • Single-cell and spatial profiling

  • CRISPR-based genome editing

  • Organoid and ex vivo models

  • Genetically engineered and transplantation mouse models

  • Intravital imaging and rare-cell isolation

  • Access to human biospecimens and clinical data

More information about our research program is available on our website: https://einsteinmed.edu/labs/julio-aguirre-ghiso.

Environment and Collaborations

Our laboratory is embedded in a highly interactive and multidisciplinary environment that includes the Cancer Dormancy Institute, the Department of Cell Biology, the Stem Cell Institute, and the Montefiore Einstein Comprehensive Cancer Center, among others. The fellow will collaborate closely with multiple Einstein laboratories and will have ample opportunities to interact with leaders in cell biology, cancer biology, stem cell biology, immunology, and aging research.

Qualifications

We seek candidates who:

  • Have a PhD or equivalent degree and no prior postdoctoral training.

  • Have a strong foundation in cancer biology intersecting with one or more of the following areas: immunology, stem cell biology, aging, liver biology, or lung biology.

  • Demonstrate solid expertise in cell biology and in vivo models (mouse or comparable systems); prior experience with GEMMs, intravital imaging, or organoid systems is highly valued.

  • Are highly motivated, collaborative, and eager to drive independent projects within a team-science framework.

How to Apply

Interested applicants should email the following materials:

  1. Curriculum vitae

  2. Brief summary of prior research experience and future career goals

  3. Contact information for three references

Please send your application to the attention of Dr. Julio Aguirre-Ghiso via Nuri Panjaton at nuri.panjaton@einsteinmed.edu.
