Job Summary:
Review credit union policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. Performs internal audits as directed to ensure credit union policies and procedures meet standards. Develop and recommend policy changes to senior management and/or the Board of Directors to facilitate the credit union's compliance program, reduce risk, and reflect regulatory changes. Update and disseminate information regarding laws and regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
- On an ongoing basis, review laws and regulations that impact the credit union's compliance requirements, with emphasis on BSA/AML, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC.
- Evaluate the credit union's policies, procedures, products, and programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Make recommendations for changes where appropriate.
- Disseminate information, answer questions, and be a subject matter expert for the credit union on all compliance-related issues.
- Assess the risk potential of current procedures and recommend new procedures that minimize loss exposure.
- Ensure that any change to a policy or procedure is clearly communicated to the impacted departments or the credit union organization. Ensures new procedures are understood and implemented by team members.
- Develop and recommend corrective action procedures, as necessary, to ensure compliance with policies and procedures and to prevent future compliance issues.
- Coordinate a compliance audit and present a summary report to management.
- Develop, perform, and oversee various "spot check" internal audit procedures, i.e., cash counts, teller drawer audits, loan documentation, wire transfers, etc. Review random sampling of all new loans for exceptions to policies and procedures.
- Attendance is an essential job function.

Representative Job Tasks:
- Assist in the revision and/or design of forms, products, websites, programs, or promotions to ensure compliance with all State and Federal rules and regulations.
- Develop or assist in developing compliance training programs.
- Assist compliance examiners with their examinations, making available the information that is necessary to complete their examinations.
- Develop and ensure the implementation of record retention policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Conduct investigations or special audits at the request of management.
- Prepare written and verbal audit reports for Board Committees and management.
- Participate in new hire training activities.
Education/Licensing:
- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, or related field, or equivalent career experience at a financial institution.
- Possess a valid driver's license to utilize a vehicle for business purposes.
Requirements:
- Ten years of experience in risk management, internal audits, and compliance in a financial institution setting.
- Demonstrated understanding of credit union compliance regulations preferred.
- Proven verbal and written interpersonal communication skills to lead teams and processes.
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and professionalism when communicating with team members.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new skills and a commitment to continuous improvement processes.
- Demonstrated organizational skills to prioritize various projects and assignments with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient with technology and a broad range of software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Complexity of Work/Experience: Requires critical thinking, communication, and technical skills. Must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize.
Physical Requirements: Must possess the ability to frequently bend, stoop, reach, stand, and occasionally lift twenty pounds of IT equipment or office supplies. Constant use of repetitive hand/arm movements, keyboard entry, and vision (depth perception, the ability to distinguish color, and the ability to see both far and near), as well as audible speech and hearing acuity. Constant exposure to computer monitors is required.
