Position: Bartender
Reports To: General Manager
Job Overview
The Bartender is responsible for providing friendly, attentive, and efficient service to guests in a full-service restaurant environment while preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in accordance with restaurant standards and applicable laws. This position supports a positive guest experience by accurately taking orders, preparing beverages, processing transactions, maintaining a clean and organized bar area, and working closely with servers, hosts, cooks, and management to support restaurant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service & Hospitality
- Greet guests promptly and provide friendly, professional, and attentive service.
- Take beverage and food orders accurately and respond to guest questions regarding menu items and beverage selections.
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to established recipes, portions, and restaurant standards.
- Monitor guest needs throughout the dining experience and respond promptly to requests.
- Work collaboratively with servers, hosts, cooks, and other team members to provide timely and accurate service.
- Handle guest concerns professionally and involve management when appropriate.
Beverage Service & Compliance
- Verify identification and legal drinking age as required by applicable law and restaurant procedures.
- Follow all applicable alcohol service laws, responsible beverage service requirements, and company policies.
- Monitor alcohol consumption and follow established procedures regarding responsible alcohol service.
- Maintain appropriate beverage portions and preparation standards.
- Keep bar products, garnishes, glassware, and supplies stocked and properly organized.
- Notify management of product shortages, equipment concerns, or other operational issues.
Cash Handling & Operations
- Accurately enter guest orders into the point-of-sale system.
- Process cash, credit card, and other approved payment transactions accurately.
- Follow restaurant procedures for cash handling, guest checks, discounts, and payment processing.
- Maintain accountability for assigned cash and transactions.
- Complete assigned opening, shift-change, and closing duties.
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary bar and guest service area.
- Clean and sanitize bar surfaces, equipment, utensils, glassware, and service areas according to restaurant procedures.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, safety, and chemical-handling procedures.
- Perform cleaning tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, sanitizing surfaces, removing trash, cleaning restrooms as assigned, maintaining interior and exterior areas, and any other cleaning or side work tasks assigned by management.
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Communicate clearly and professionally with guests, team members, and management.
- Support restaurant operations during busy periods and assist other team members as needed.
- Follow restaurant policies, procedures, safety practices, and service standards.
- Maintain professional conduct and appearance while representing Denny's and WKS Restaurant Group.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance and arrive prepared to perform assigned duties.

- Writing, reading screens, guest checks, labels, checklists, or other job-related materials.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects.

- Use of job-related equipment, tools, technology, and cleaning supplies, as permitted by applicable age requirements.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods during the work shift.
- Lifting and carrying ranges:
- 0–10 lbs: Frequent
- 11–25 lbs: Frequent
- 26–50 lbs: Occasional with assistance
- 51–75 lbs: Seldom; team-lift only
- Pushing and pulling approximately 10–40 lbs of force occasionally.
- Frequent use of hands for beverage preparation, cleaning, equipment operation, product handling, and guest transactions.
Work Environment
- Work performed in restaurant dining room, bar, kitchen, service, storage, and office areas.
- Exposure to heat, cooking equipment, noise, wet or slippery surfaces, and cleaning chemicals.
- Fast-paced environment with guest interaction and changing operational demands.
- Variable schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.

Requirements
- Previous restaurant, hospitality, bartending, customer service, or related experience preferred but not required.
- Basic communication and interpersonal skills required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to follow safety, sanitation, operational, and guest service procedures.
- Ability to work flexible schedules including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Basic math and cash handling skills preferred.
- Must meet applicable California age and legal requirements for serving alcoholic beverages.
- Must complete any alcohol-service training or certification required by applicable law.
