Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Research Scientist / Research Engineer in Switzerland.
This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge machine learning research and real-world product impact, focused on building adaptive, efficient, and continuously learning AI systems. You will work on frontier problems such as real-time learning, gradient-free optimization, and model efficiency, helping design systems that evolve based on live user and product signals. The environment is highly research-driven but grounded in practical deployment, where ideas are validated through production systems rather than papers alone. You will collaborate across research, engineering, and infrastructure teams to co-design algorithms and interfaces as a unified system. This is a high-impact role for individuals passionate about pushing the boundaries of intelligence that interacts dynamically with the real world. The team values urgency, technical excellence, and bold experimentation in solving complex ML challenges.
You will contribute to the design and development of adaptive machine learning systems that continuously learn from real-time feedback and product signals. Your work will span algorithm innovation, system optimization, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure research translates into measurable product impact.
- Innovate on model and system design to enable real-time learning and adaptive AI behavior
- Co-design algorithms that integrate user feedback and product signals to improve performance
- Develop new approaches for collecting, shaping, and leveraging synthetic and real-world data
- Collaborate across software, hardware, and research teams to optimize full-stack system efficiency
- Define and evaluate meaningful metrics tied to real-world impact and user value
- Translate research ideas into production-ready systems and scalable solutions
You are expected to bring strong academic and industry research experience in machine learning, along with a systems-oriented mindset and hands-on engineering skills. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across the full ML stack and contributing to both theoretical and applied advancements.
- PhD or equivalent research experience in computer science or a related field
- 4–5+ years of industry experience in machine learning or AI research
- Deep expertise in at least one area such as model efficiency, real-time alignment, or algorithmic optimization
- Strong systems thinking and ability to optimize across the full machine learning pipeline
- Proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow
- Knowledge of optimization techniques including reinforcement learning from human feedback and fine-tuning methods
- Experience working in large-scale industrial or research lab environments
- Strong collaboration skills, adaptability, and a willingness to experiment with bold ideas
- Flexible work arrangements including global remote work and optional in-person collaboration in the Bay Area
- Team offsites designed to strengthen collaboration and innovation
- Annual travel stipend to explore new countries and expand global perspective
- Weekly meal or grocery delivery stipend
- Comprehensive medical coverage and generous paid time off
- Opportunity to work on frontier AI systems with high real-world impact
