Job Title: Packing and Assembly Labor II
Reports to: Packing and Assembly Manager
Position Status: Hourly
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Packing & Assembly Laborer II performs advanced final assembly, packaging, and shipment preparation of retail furniture products. This position requires strong product knowledge, proficiency with assembly equipment and power tools, and the ability to work independently while supporting team productivity. The employee plays a key role in maintaining quality, training less experienced team members, and ensuring production requirements are met in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform advanced assembly of metal and wood furniture components using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
- Package finished products according to customer specifications and company quality standards.
- Build pallets, secure products, and prepare shipments using foam, plastic wrap, cartons, and other packaging materials.
- Operate drills, saws, grinders, and other manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Interpret work orders, assembly drawings, packaging instructions, and production schedules.
- Process production transactions accurately within Epicor, including reporting quantities, labor tracking, and scanning jobs in and out of work centers.
- Monitor product quality and identify defects, inconsistencies, or process issues.
- Assist in troubleshooting assembly and packaging problems.
- Coordinate workflow and communicate changing priorities with supervisors and team members.
- Help train and mentor new employees on assembly, packaging, safety procedures, and system usage.
- Assist with inventory movement, material handling, and shipment preparation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and recommend process improvements.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
- Meet productivity, quality, and shipping deadlines while working independently with minimal supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to analyze assembly and packaging issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
- Ability to prioritize work and adjust quickly to changing production demands.
- Ability to interpret production documentation and apply instructions accurately.
- Ability to make sound decisions regarding quality, safety, and workflow efficiency
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read, interpret, and communicate work instructions, production orders, and safety documentation.
- Ability to effectively communicate with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-functional departments.
- Ability to provide training and guidance to less experienced employees.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred but not required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 2-3 years of manufacturing, assembly, packaging, or related production experience preferred.
- Experience using ERP systems, preferably Epicor, required.
- Strong knowledge of assembly methods, packaging standards, and material handling practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead work activities when necessary.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Forklift certification a plus.
