Summary:

The Quality Control Technician – Water Testing conducts on-water and in-process production testing of boats to ensure all systems meet quality, safety, and performance standards prior to customer delivery. Verifies product functionality, identifies defects, documents testing results, and ensures each vessel meets Nautique’s performance and craftsmanship expectations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs on-water testing of completed boats to verify performance, handling, and system functionality.
  • Executes standardized test procedures for engine performance, steering and control systems, ballast and surf systems, and electrical and electronic systems.
  • Conducts pre-water and post-water test inspections to identify cosmetic, mechanical, and functional defects.
  • Verifies completion of required production and quality checks prior to release to the next operation.
  • Accurately documents issues found during testing and enters defects into quality systems with clear descriptions and supporting details.
  • Tags and escalates nonconforming boats or systems according to company quality procedures.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting of boat systems when issues are identified and re-tests boats after repairs to verify corrective actions are effective.
  • Works closely with Design and Development, Production, and other Quality teams to support issue resolution and product quality.
  • Follows company safety procedures, environmental requirements, and applicable waterway regulations, and provides feedback on recurring issues or trends observed during testing.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship required beyond high school preferred
  • 5 years to 7 years of mechanical experience in marine and/or automotive industry required.
  • Formal Technical/Vocational Skills: Requires specialized technical or trade knowledge, usually gained through formal training or certification, and the ability to apply it within established guidelines.
  • Required knowledge includes boat operation and on-water testing procedures; engine performance, steering and control systems, ballast and surf systems, electrical and electronic systems, quality inspection practices, basic troubleshooting, defect identification and documentation, safety procedures, environmental and waterway requirements, and the ability to verify repairs and corrective actions.
  • Must successfully complete a state-approved boating safety course, meet applicable Florida boating safety requirements for operating a motorized vessel, and successfully pass the company-required boat operation evaluation
  • Must be a licensed driver with a good driving record, subject to MVR
  • Ability to operate boats safely and confidently
  • Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and safety awareness

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Outdoor work environment, including lake and dock areas, in varying weather conditions, with exposure to water, noise, marine equipment, slippery or uneven surfaces, and wildlife commonly found around lake environments. Employees are required to follow all safety guidelines and maintain situational awareness at all times.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, lifting, and physical effort related to boat loading, hauling, and handling, including positioning, securing, and moving vessels as needed throughout the workday.
  • Work may occur in or around water, and swimming may be required to successfully perform certain job functions.
