JOB SUMMARY: Employee performs inspection and testing procedures throughout various production stages in the manufacture of metal roof support products for the mining and tunneling industries to ensure adherence to customer specifications and CSA-M430 (Canada)/ASTM-F432 (USA) Standards.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• Secondary School Diploma Preferred
• One-To-Two (1-2) Years Metal Processing Experience Required-Three-toSix (3-6) Months On-The-Job Training Required.
• ISO Experience, A Plus
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess dependability to be consistently at work and on time
• Possess intermediate level reading and math skills including knowledge of fractions and decimal computations
• Possess intermediate level verbal/written comprehension skills
• Possess basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
• Possess ability to verify product dimensions using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments
• Possess ability to operate Tensile/Compression Tester and other equipment to accurately inspect and test raw material and manufactured products
• Possess ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines when handling equipment and precision instruments
• Possess a ''Team" mentality
• Possess repetitive sitting and/or bending capability during normal phase duties
• Possess near/far vision and upper-limb coordination
• Possess ligh/heavy (5-50 lbs/2.25-22.5 kg) lifting capability during normal phase duties
GENERAL FUNCTIONS/TASKS:
• Perform a safety evaluation of assigned work station and surrounding area.
• Inspect products at various stages of processing to ensure adherence to manufacturing specifications and CSA-M430 (Canada)/ASTM-F432 (USA) Standards.
• Perform testing procedures on products during or after processing operation to gauge strength, density, durability and conformity to manufacturing specifications meeting CSA-M430 (Canada)/ASTM-F432 (USA) Standards.
• Grade and label raw materials or finished products according to size, thickness, composition or other manufacturing specifications.
• Complete inspection and test reports
• Advise supervisor, process worker, or machine operator of problems and/or product deficiencies.
• Perform cleanup actions or any other general laboring and elemental activities as directed by supervisory personnel to ensure efficient operation of facility.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Majority of work performance is conducted in a steel product manufacturing plant that contains heavy production machinery and job-specific equipment and tools (L2 Location). Occasional work performance is conducted in an outdoor work environment with exposure to various weather conditions and seasonal weather patterns (L3 Location).
• Plant safety and machine-specific safety procedures are strictly enforced and compliant with government regulations.
• Safety training, written procedures, and continual improvement measures are implemented to remove or control any physical/environmental hazards (H1, H3, H6, H7) or discomforts (01 , 02, D3, D4) that may be present in the workplace.
• Employee use of personal protective equipment is required for all phases of job performance to prevent bodily injury.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Job performance demands constant application of the following physical requirements: use of hands.
• Job performance demands frequent application of the following physical requirements: light lifting (Avg. 5 lbs/2.25 kg), carrying, walking, reaching, fine manipulation, near/far vision, upper-limb coordination.
• Job performance demands occasional application of the following physical requirements: heavy lifting (Max. 50 lbs/22.5 kg), standing, sitting, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, balancing, close visual acuity, multiple-limb coordination.
