Job Description
PART-TIME SIGN LANGUAGE INSTRUCTOR
Part-time faculty position to teach undergraduate courses focused on developing students' basic receptive and expressive Sign Language skills. This position is housed within the General Education Unit. The selected candidate must be available to teach on campus (in person), Monday through Friday during daytime hours, for the August–November 2026 term. The position requires the integration of laboratory experiences and digital resources into instruction.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
• Certification or Associate Degree in Sign Language Interpretation.
• Master’s or Doctoral degree in Special Education, Linguistics, Communication, Sign Language Interpretation, or a related field from a recognized and accredited institution.
• Experience teaching Sign Language courses at the university level.
• Advanced proficiency in Puerto Rican Sign Language and knowledge of the influence of American Sign Language (ASL).
• Knowledge of the history, culture, and identity of the Deaf community, as well as the movement advocating for the rights of Deaf individuals.
• Experience implementing innovative methodologies and pedagogical strategies that foster communication, critical thinking, and student reflection.
• Ability to motivate and develop students through active-learning methodologies.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
• Proficiency in the use of Learning Management Systems (LMS) to support distance, hybrid, or multimodal education.
• Experience designing activities and instructional materials (digital and print) that promote the development of linguistic skills.
• Availability to teach in person, hybrid, or online courses, as required by the University.
• Teaching experience using Zoom, Canvas, and other educational technology platforms.
