Senior Principal, Human Resources – Manufacturing & Operations

The Senior Principal, Human Resources – Manufacturing is a critical role in shaping how HR supports Blue Origin’s transition to a production-oriented organization operating at scale.

This role serves as the bridge between enterprise HR strategy and manufacturing execution, ensuring that our people practices enable operational success.

Role Overview

Blue Origin is seeking a Human Resources Leader for Manufacturing to lead the strategy, alignment, and execution of HR support across our manufacturing operations.

This role operates as a senior individual contributor at the equivalent level of a Senior Director, with enterprise-wide scope across the largest and most operationally complex portion of the business. The leader will serve as the central point of coordination and thought leadership for all manufacturing HR, influencing leaders and HR Business Partners across multiple programs and sites.

Collectively, these organizations represent approximately +6,000 employees, with a majority hourly workforce operating in production and launch environments.

This role is designed to ensure that HR practices across manufacturing are consistent, scalable, and aligned to production objectives, while enabling HR Business Partners to operate effectively at a strategic level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and drive the enterprise HR strategy for manufacturing and launch operations

  • Ensure consistency of HR practices across programs, including performance management, employee relations frameworks, attendance and workforce policies, employee development and progression.

  • Partner with Operations leadership to align workforce strategy with production and rate objectives

  • Serve as the functional lead for partner teams supporting manufacturing, providing guidance, alignment, and coaching to ensure a unified HR approach across programs

  • Drive cross-program collaboration, eliminating fragmentation in HR practices

  • Lead development of a site-based HR strategy across major manufacturing locations and establish consistent approaches to technician engagement, workforce communication and site-level culture and leadership effectiveness

  • Ensure HR presence and support models are aligned to shift-based, production-driven environments

  • Act as the subject matter expert for hourly workforce dynamics, including employee relations trends, union vulnerability and labor risk mitigation, front-line leader capability

  • Partner with Employee Relations and leadership teams to proactively manage workforce sentiment and risk

  • Support organizational design decisions to ensure structures enable efficient production and leadership effectiveness

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive HR experience, with significant experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or operations organizations

  • Demonstrated experience working with large hourly workforces in production environments

  • Strong expertise in employee relations, labor strategy / union avoidance, workforce planning in manufacturing settings

  • Proven ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority

  • Experience operating in high-growth or scaling environments preferred

  • Ability to navigate complex, multi-site organizations with diverse workforce needs

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
