Job Description
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Computational CAD Engineer in United States.
This role is focused on leveraging advanced OpenSCAD expertise to design, script, and refine parametric 2D and 3D models that support AI-driven design and training workflows. You will translate conceptual sketches into precise, programmatically controlled CAD structures that can be used in scalable data and automation pipelines. The position requires deep technical mastery of computational design principles, enabling the creation of reusable, logic-driven geometry through scripting rather than manual modeling. You will collaborate closely with AI and data teams to ensure design logic is accurately represented and effectively integrated into machine learning workflows. The environment is highly technical and innovation-driven, emphasizing precision, code quality, and modeling efficiency. This is a hands-on role where your CAD scripting directly contributes to next-generation AI training datasets and automated design systems.
- Develop, document, and maintain OpenSCAD scripts for both simple and complex parametric CAD models.
- Translate sketches and conceptual inputs into detailed, production-ready 2D and 3D designs.
- Apply advanced OpenSCAD techniques such as Boolean operations, list comprehensions, and flow control to generate complex geometries.
- Use extrusion and transformation methods including linear_extrude, rotate_extrude, and minkowski to create advanced 3D shapes.
- Construct models by combining primitive shapes such as cubes, spheres, cylinders, and cones within parametric frameworks.
- Design reusable components using loops, nesting structures, and modular scripting approaches.
- Collaborate with AI and data teams to explain design logic, modeling decisions, and scripting structures clearly.
- Ensure all outputs are well-documented, scalable, and suitable for integration into AI training and automation pipelines.
- Strong hands-on expertise in OpenSCAD (mandatory; experience with other CAD tools alone is not sufficient).
- Advanced understanding of OpenSCAD syntax including variables, operators, special variables, and modifier characters.
- Proven ability to create, transform, and manipulate 2D and 3D geometries using scripting-based modeling.
- Experience with Boolean operations and complex parametric design workflows.
- Familiarity with advanced features such as lists, list comprehensions, flow control, and type testing functions.
- Solid understanding of OpenSCAD interface, workflow, and best practices for modular design.
- Strong documentation skills and ability to clearly explain technical and design logic in writing and speech.
- Ability to iterate from conceptual ideas to precise, code-driven CAD models.
- Prior exposure to AI training data creation or automated design pipelines is a plus.
- Competitive hourly compensation ranging from $40 to $120 based on experience.
- Fully remote contractor opportunity.
- Flexible working arrangement with project-based autonomy.
- Opportunity to work on AI-driven design and computational modeling initiatives.
- Exposure to advanced parametric CAD workflows and AI training data systems.
- Collaborative environment working alongside AI and data engineering teams.
- Opportunity to build a strong portfolio in computational design and OpenSCAD specialization.
