This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Power Distribution Designer in the United States.

This role focuses on the design, coordination, and delivery of electric utility distribution projects supporting both aerial and underground infrastructure. You will play a key part in developing safe, efficient, and code-compliant power distribution systems that serve communities across the country. The position involves field data collection, detailed engineering design, and close collaboration with utilities, contractors, and internal project teams. You will ensure that designs meet technical standards, regulatory requirements, and construction feasibility while supporting project timelines and budgets. This is a hands-on technical role that blends fieldwork, CAD-based design, and cross-functional coordination. You will also contribute to improving design processes and may support the training of junior designers. The environment is collaborative, detail-oriented, and focused on delivering reliable energy infrastructure.

Accountabilities:
  • Perform end-to-end design and engineering tasks for electric utility distribution projects, including aerial and underground systems
  • Conduct field data collection, prepare field sketches, and document pole conditions, measurements, and site details
  • Develop and review detailed design drawings using CAD tools, including work orders, line layouts, and construction prints
  • Apply industry standards and utility codes such as NESC requirements, voltage drop calculations, load balancing, and clearance rules
  • Design and review joint use (make-ready), pole replacement, service connections, and reliability or maintenance projects
  • Identify design conflicts, prepare material lists, cost estimates, and support construction documentation
  • Coordinate with utilities, project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure design accuracy and project alignment
  • Participate in design reviews, field checks, and construction support activities to ensure quality execution
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure proper turnover of records to clients and stakeholders
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in training or mentoring junior designers when needed
Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree in engineering technology, electrical design, or equivalent experience in power distribution design
  • 3–5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution design, preferably within regional utility environments
  • Hands-on experience with overhead and underground distribution systems and related engineering standards
  • Strong understanding of utility design principles, including NESC codes, clearance requirements, and load calculations
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Experience performing fieldwork and translating site data into accurate technical design documentation
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce detailed engineering and construction drawings
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and field teams
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and willingness to travel regionally as required
  • Experience with AutoCAD (2D/3D), Right-of-Way processes, and infrastructure crossing requirements is preferred
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently in a remote setting
Benefits:
  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and industry standards
  • Remote work arrangement with regional field travel as needed
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage
  • Retirement savings plan with employer contributions
  • Paid time off and flexible work policies
  • Professional development and technical training opportunities
  • Exposure to large-scale utility infrastructure projects across the United States
  • Collaborative and inclusive work environment focused on growth and advancement
  • Opportunity to work on critical energy infrastructure that supports communities nationwide
