Job Description

LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh (Oakland Campus) invites applications for one Laboratory Instructor position with an anticipated start date of 15 August 2026. This position is for two (2), two-term academic years (nine-month contract) and is renewable subject to departmental evaluation. The position is outside of the tenure stream and will require administrative and budgetary approval. Review of applications will occur as they are received and will continue until the position is filled.

Minimum qualifications:
Applicants should have earned a minimum of a master's degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited university and have at least 5 years of university-level teaching experience. Candidates possessing experience with teaching large-enrollment university-level chemistry courses are especially desirable.

Job description:
Full-time Instructor duties will consist of providing instructions in Lab and Lecture settings, assisting the development of curricula and course materials, and leading laboratory sections within the undergraduate teaching program. Typical duties will consist of teaching 18 credit hours over the academic year. In the department, this level of teaching load typically corresponds to four large-enrollment courses, or six low-enrollment courses or eight lab sections per academic year. Contributions to the development and improvement of the undergraduate curriculum, serving on departmental and university committees, and assisting with the necessary administrative aspects of a vibrant and large undergraduate instructional program are also expected of the successful candidate.
