What You'll Do
As an Emergency Department Technician, you'll report to the Nursing Manager and serve as an integral member of the emergency care team. You will assist nurses and providers with direct patient care, perform clinical and technical procedures, monitor patient conditions, and help maintain a safe, efficient, and compassionate care environment. Your work will directly support patient flow, quality outcomes, and an exceptional patient experience.
Emergency Department Technician Job Responsibilities
- Assists patients with activities of daily living and basic patient care needs as delegated by the Registered Nurse.
- Obtains and documents vital signs, weights, EKGs, cardiac monitoring data, and other patient information.
- Reports changes in patient condition promptly and accurately to the assigned nurse or provider.
- Assists physicians and nurses with procedures and treatments within scope of practice.
- Performs delegated clinical tasks such as wound care, splint application, cast removal, specimen collection, and enema administration.
- Prepares patients, rooms, equipment, and supplies for procedures including suturing, pelvic exams, incision and drainage procedures, chest tube insertions, lumbar punctures, and eye irrigations.
- Maintains department readiness through stocking supplies, equipment maintenance, room turnover, and environmental cleanliness.
- Utilizes infection prevention practices and follows all safety protocols.
- Promotes a positive patient and family experience through compassionate communication and service excellence.
- Greets patients and visitors, answers telephones, and assists with coordination of patient care activities.
- Serves as a liaison between patients, families, providers, and clinical staff to support effective communication.
- Utilizes de-escalation techniques and follows established protocols to maintain a safe environment.
- Participates in department education, competency validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current BLS (CPR) certification.
- Ability to perform patient care duties and basic clinical procedures.
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced emergency care environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Emergency Department, EMT, Paramedic, Patient Care Assistant, Medical Assistant, or related healthcare experience.
- Experience obtaining EKGs, collecting specimens, monitoring patients, and assisting with clinical procedures.
- Previous experience in an acute care or emergency setting.
